Lawn core aeration is the process of
removing small cores of soil and grass to
allow oxygen, water and nutrients into the
root zone.

Most lawns in the upper midwest can
benefit from lawn aeration. The most
effective lawns traffic, where thatch is
abundant and soils that contain excessive
clay. If the roots of your lawn are only a
couple inches deep, your lawn could
probably benefit from core aeration.

Aeration offers other benefits, including
reduced fertilizer and pesticide run-off,
improve rooting, as well as increased
activity of microorganisms that help to
decompose thatch.

Spring and fall are generally the most
effective times to aerate. Depending upon
the soil and your specific lawn, we will
generally recommend one or two aerations
per year.
